Confusion with Database Corruption

When working with clients on fixing their corrupt SQL Server databases we run into some common beliefs about corruption that are not quite true, such as:

A full backup and restore of a corrupt database may help fix the corruption.
This is FALSE. If the database is not so corrupt that backups are failing, the full back up a database, the corruption is backed up also.

Rebooting the SQL Server may help with the corruption.
Also FALSE. Once the file is corrupt a reboot will not help. It may make things worse, for instance rebooting a corrupt database make end up leaving it off line, coming up in SUSPECT mode, or in a never ending Recovery Pending state.

If I just ignore the corruption it may go away or fix itself.
Very UNLIKELY. If you have a regular process that truncates the table with the corruption, then it will go away… Otherwise, very unlikely.
