Why Am I Creating More Online Classes?

Steve Stedman Answers the question....

With the recent release of the short free SQL ransomware awareness class, and the upcoming release of our backup and recovery class, some clients have asked, “why are you creating these classes?”

Stedman SQL School

I Love it: The first answer is that in the work I do, my favorite thing is to teach what I know. I have always loved teaching and sharing my knowledge. Teaching and presenting is not something that I am new to. For years have presented at PASS Summit and SQL Saturdays, I have taught at many SQL Server users groups, and I have taught classes at former companies that I have worked at. Teaching has always been my passion.

More Normalcy: Even though I really enjoy the work that I do on database corruption repair, and other emergency response projects, it can be a bit challenging on my schedule and it makes it hard to plan vacations, even short vacations. Some weeks I am really busy, and other weeks not so much, and I can use those slow weeks to work on my classes.

Help More People: Even if I spent all my time working with mentoring customers, or one on one projects with clients, I would never be able to help the number of people that I can reach with online training classes. Part of my business model is to reach as many customers as possible, and teaching classes, helps me to scale that goal.

This doesn’t mean I am giving up any of my other work, it is just adding something new into the mix.

If I can make enough money off my classes to justify the time I am putting into creating them, then my plan is to keep creating classes. I don’t expect a lot, just enough to make it worthwhile.

Right now as I write this post, I am on my first vacation longer than a 3 to 4 day weekend that I have had in almost 2 years (well its only 2 days longer that that). So the more normalcy option above is an important one to me. As I sit here with my Hawaiian shirt with martini glass pattern with marlins jumping out of it, it makes me want to better plan my work so that I can focus my time on those who need help, while sharing as much of what I know with others. And not wait another 2 years for another vacation.

Please check out our FREE Ransomware Awareness Class that is specifically focused on SQL Server and the impacts from ransomware. Also keep you eye out, in the next couple of weeks we will be launching our backup and recovery class, which is one of my favorites.
