SQL Configuration Manager Missing
On a number of recent installs of SQL Server that I have worked on, I have noticed that the SQL Configuration Manager has been missing from the start menu, not sure if someone deleted it from the menu, or if the icon was just not added.
The SQL Configuration Manager is an important tool for configuring the sql instances installed on the server, and the startup options, as well as for restarting the services.
Since every version of SQL Server installs the configuration manager with a different name due to the version number in the name, it makes it hard to find.
Version | Path |
---|---|
SQL Server 2019 | C:\Windows\SysWOW64\SQLServerManager15.msc |
SQL Server 2017 | C:\Windows\SysWOW64\SQLServerManager14.msc |
SQL Server 2016 | C:\Windows\SysWOW64\SQLServerManager13.msc |
SQL Server 2014 (12.x) | C:\Windows\SysWOW64\SQLServerManager12.msc |
SQL Server 2012 (11.x) | C:\Windows\SysWOW64\SQLServerManager11.msc |
The quick way I have found to always be able to get to the configuration manager is to click the start menu, then just start typing SQLServerMa and about that point it shows up in the search results. If there are multiple versions installed you will be able to see each of those in the results.
Click the SQLServerManager in the list and you will be off and running.
