Hello, I came across your website and it seems that you are an SQL expert, I’m just getting started. I was wondering can you please give some guidance on query optimization? I’m trying to optimize two medium sized queries but having no luck.

SQL Server query optimization is one of those things that can vary so much depending on your query and your environment. Here are a couple things that I offer that may help.

Database Health Monitor: An application for monitoring SQL Server performance. I use this quite a bit when I am doing query optimization work to find some of the problem areas.

SQL Server Mentoring: from me and the team at Stedman Solutions. Purchase a 4 hour block of time and used that for multiple mentoring sessions to help with find the issues with your queries.

Full SQL Performance Assessment where we focus on how to make your SQL Server run faster, and help with tracking specific performance issues.

In addition to the services that Stedman Solutions offers there are many books, and videos available on SQL Server performance tuning.

I think for what you are asking for here, a combination of the Database Health Monitor to analyze your server and the SQL Server Mentoring package may be a good start.
