SQL Server Mentoring

With the variety of clients that we work with at Stedman Solutions, one of our service products that has come from listening to our customers is the SQL Server Mentoring package. This is a really good fit for some customers who just need an occasional hand with something on their SQL Server.

I was just working with a new client today who after understanding what they were looking for was a perfect fit for the mentoring product. One of the more flexible offerings that we have is for what we call our mentoring packages. The mentoring works like this.

• Client prepays for a block of hours, usually 4 to 8 hours up front.
• Client sends requests for mentoring help.
• We then reply with a solution, or an answer to their question, or we can jump on a Zoom session to help solve the problem.
• Client is billed for the time used in 15 minute increments.
• When the time is almost used up the client has the option to extend the mentoring package for another 4 to 8 hours.

Typically a 4 hour block of mentoring is used in 8 to 12 different questions and saves far more time than the 4 hours paid for.

What I like about the mentoring offering is that we can help the the DBA’s or the people out there who wear many hats and are responsible for the database without a larger commitment.
