Sales To Aggressive?
When does a salesperson become too aggressive? In my business I try to not be too annoying or aggressive but sometimes not being assertive enough may lead to lost sales.
The main reason that I am posting this is to share my experience with Google Adwords and their aggressive account managers. Over the last 2 months I have had more than a dozen phone calls and emails and I continue to tell them to go away.
Background, earlier in the year I was contacted by my Google Ads account representative, who was going to help me optimize my advertising account to save money and get more customer leads. After several calls and many changes they eventually ended up reducing my website leads from the Google Ads to almost 0, and more than doubled my monthly cost. After several months of this I eventually backed out all their changes and got my account back to the way it has been, I reduced my cost to where it was and increased my leads to the original level I had been at. A whole lot of work and money wasted for nothing to be gained there.
So every quarter they assign me a new “account manager” that is there to “help” me. This time around, I finally told them to go away. I was polite telling them that the first 5 times, but after that I lost my patients and may not have been so polite. They just keep calling. I wish I had kept a better record in the beginning, but now I plan to use this post to document the absurd behavior.
Prior to this week, over the last 8 weeks, I have had around a dozen phone calls. Yesterday they called and I asked them to leave me alone.
Today (11/18/2020) I received this email, and replied with this message. Again, not meaning to be rude, but to rather get my point across as there is some obvious disconnect here.
Today (11/19/2020) I get this email, along with voice mail from a missed call which means they didn’t listen when said to leave me alone and let me manage my account on my own.
1/15/2021 – Phone call introducing the new account manager. No thank you, and the call ended.
1/18/2021 – Another call, explaining that this account manager is different from the others, and they are really going to help me this time.
I will continue to document this ongoing saga as it continues.
I hope that I am never considered too aggressive in my sales efforts for my business.
