Corruption Repair Complete

This weekend the Stedman Solutions team had the opportunity to help a new client repair their corrupt database.  By Sunday evening we had their database completely recovered and up and running.

I certainly didn’t get enough sleep over the weekend, and I think that I may have set a personal record for the longest Webex session that I have participated in at around 36 hours. But when we did that final check and knew that the database was free of corruption it was all worthwhile.

One thing that was incredibly helpful was that the very first thing the client did was to create 2 very fast servers in Amazon AWS, and to restore the current corrupt database along with the last 6 or 8 backups that were available. This gave me a great location to jump in and start diagnosing the problem, determine when the corruption started and creating the repair scripts, and the second AWS server gave me a chance to try the restore script a second time before ever attempting on the production system.

This was the 8th SQL Server corruption repair so far this year for the Stedman Solutions team.

If you want to be prepared for corruption when it strikes your location, don’t forget to train ahead of time with the Database Corruption Challenge.
