When you do a database restore, including log backups, it is very important to get the log chain in the right order, or it won’t work. To restore a full backup, then log backups, the chain of logs could be hard to sort out if you have dozens or hundreds of log backups to restore. Your sure don’t want to be hand coding these.
At my SUMMIT 2017 presentation on Backup and Restore I presented a script that will build your restore script for you when you have lots of log files. In case you need it I have included the updated script here.
This is really handy since it allows you to build out the entire restore script at the time you run your backup, rather than having to build it out at the time you need it.
