November 2019 Release of Database Health Monitor

Thanks to the successful funding campaign on Indiegogo I was able to fund the November 2019 release of Database Health Monitor.

Here are the release notes.

Version 2.9.4 Release Notes

Version 2.9.4 is the November release of Database Health Monitor.

New Reports

  • Added a new instance level connections report that shows client connections and counts of connections.
  • Added a new instance level security report.

New Features

  • Added better messaging when configuring historic reporting so that it is clear that a DBHealthHistory database will be created and that a SQL Agent job will be created, and if you are running from a central monitoring server, a linked server connection will be created. Note for local monitoring no linked server connection is needed.
  • Added a sort instances by alias menu in the tree view. All instances that have an alias are sorted first by alias, then those without an alias are sorted by the regular server name.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed a bug in the index advisor dialog where the index name and table name were reversed.
  • Fixed 2 bugs in the Quick Scan report related to case sensitive database.

Here is a look at the start of the new security report:

And here is a look at the connections report:

What I like about the new connections report is the ability to spot the logins with the most connections, and where they are connecting from. Since implementing this I have already found a few surprises that I had to address in the number of connections on the SQL Servers that I regularly work on.
