SQL Data Partners – SQL Server Podcast

I am excited to announce that I have joined Carlos Chacon to become the co-host of the SQL Data Partners – SQL Server podcast. The weekly show has just reached 50 episodes, and Carlos has asked me to join him as co-host on the podcast.

In episode 50 Carlos introduces me as the co-host, the Corruption Compañero or the West Coast Compañero. I think I like the Corruption Compañero best. If you are a listener of the podcast you will recognize the word Compañero as companion, as in SQL Compañero or SQL companion. It’s a catchy term, and I am excited to be the Corruption Compañero on the podcast.

As part of joining as the co-host, there is one change being made to the podcast format. At the end of each weekly podcast, there will be a brief tuning “minute”, where I get to present on something that you can do to better tune your SQL Server. This may include performance tuning, security tuning, or overall stability settings, or things to do help reduce trouble when a disaster such as database corruption is encountered.  I put the term “minute” in quotes as some topics may be 3 to 5 minutes, and others may be just a minute or two.

I will also be helping with the discussion with each week’s guest. It may take a couple of weeks before I get up to speed on that part, but going forward, I will actively be involved in each week’s podcast interview.

When Carlos asked me to co-host the podcast, there were a few factors that made me say yes to the opportunity. First, this is a podcast that I love to listen to, I already listen to each broadcast every Wednesday when it is released. I usually listen in my car driving to or from a client engagement. The second reason is this is a podcast that I almost always learn something new from. I have treated this like my SQL DBA continuing education program for the last several months.

All 50 Episodes

This also marks the point in time where I have just finished listening to all of the first 50 podcasts, and I have learned a lot along the way.  I think that I started regularly listening to the podcast around episode 30, and since then I have been hooked, and have gone back and listened to every older episode that Carlos created.

I look forward to this opportunity, and am excited to see where it goes over the next 50 episodes. If you haven’t already given the SQL Data Partners podcast a try, why not give it a listen now. It’s a great way to learn something new every day.
